Boy, was I excited after a harsh winter to see baseball start. With Edwin Jackson as part as are rotation, it is going to be exciting to see all the Tigers can provide. And the hopes that the 2009 season will not be a 2008 repeat.
Monday 4/6 Verlander got his start, but as you may of known, it sure as hell wasn't a good one. Three and two-thirds innings with eight earned runs? I'm thinking Nuke LaLoosh at the start of the season in Bull Durham. A good line in this balance sheet was that our very first hit (sadly in the fourth inning), was a Home Run by none other than our Goodwill Ambassador Curtis Granderson. My personal favorite Brandon Inge got himself a Home Run himself with two RBIs attached to it. But the Blue Jays kicked our rear ends in, eh? Lind, their aspiring DH was responsible for half of the runs knocked in for that game with six. It was also some rather interesting baseball when the Toronto fans at Left Field were throwing things on the field. Thus, having Leyland take the players off the field for Ten to Fifteen minutes. I've been to Toronto once, they don't seem like the kind of people who would pull this kind of shenanigans.
Tuesday 4/7 Ahh, Edwin Jackson got to start, and that was a glorious start indeed. Six scoreless innings and getting himself in a bit of trouble at the eighth, summoning him out with the W that he was going to receive if the relief pitching does their job. Sadly, that did not happen, Brandon Lyon allowed Toronto to take charge, giving him the Blown Save (or BS, har har) and the magic L. Offensively, Inge grabbed his second home run in his second game with three RBIs attached to it. At least in this time space, Inge (my favorite player) is putting up good numbers.
Wednesday 4/8 Zack Miner taking the starting role gives the Tigers their first W with surviving five and two-thirds. And this time, the relief pitching does the opposite by doing better while not allowing any runs. You can thank Seay, Perry and Rodney (who is our new closer) for this. Inge keeps his streak going and adds another Home Run. Cabrera cruises along the victory road by smacking two out of the ballpark. Cabrera and Inge are the only ones who obtained the RBIs for the game.
Thursday 4/9 20-year-old Porcello, the youngest player in the AL (according to Mario Impemba) debuts, but sadly earns his first L. Inge's home run streak ends, leaving six left on base. Granderson comes in to get his second home run.
Friday 4/10 OPENING DAY Galarraga RULES!! Seven Innings with five allowed hits, one earned run, eight strikeouts. Like I said with my crystal ball entry, he will be the best starting pitcher on the club. A opening day to remember, all Tigers who played on the field received a hit (minus Guillen). Cabrera hits a grand slam and a total of six RBIs. Larish plays DH, which shows that we have options instead of keeping Sheffield along with the ride. But that came with a price tag, of course. That chance of rain that they were talking about earlier that week didn't come by to spoil the fun.
Saturday 4/11 Verlander started and this time, he didn't foul up. Although he didn't earn his first W for the season, he did well. Robertson just happen to be the last man on the mound when the Tigers drew blood by taking the lead, and Rodney keeps the Rangers at bay with his second save of the season.
Sunday 4/12 Texas make the dent early with a 4-0 lead. The Tigers come back in the eighth inning, starting with a home run by Inge, Poloanco hits and RBI and Guillen ties it up with two RBIs. Inge comes back in that same inning to hit a two RBI double by hitting the ball in the middle and gives the Tigers the broom to sweep the Rangers out of the way. The roles reverse with Jackson and Lyon (see Tuesday 4/7), with Jackson being the bad guy and Lyon being the good guy.
We go against the White Sox next, so far we lost one. Now, I wait for the rain to end so we can play ball. |
